Content of the teaching programme:

  1. Experimental methods in crystallography

The aim of the lecture is to explain basics of the crystallography and provide information about solving and determination the crystal structure. The subtopics of the lecture :

  • Crystal symmetry
  • The geometry of X-ray diffraction
  • The overview of experimental methods
  • Structure Solution
  • Structure refinement

  1. Weak interactions in organic crystals, charge density studies.

The aim of this lecture is characterization of hydrogen bonds in terms on charge denisty studie.

  • Classification of weak interactions, definitions, parameters.
  • Criteria for hydrogen bonds
  • Geometrical parameters for hydrogen bonds, differences between X-ray and neutron data
  • Tools for charge density analysis, QTAIM theory
  • Presentation of own research

  1. Modern charge density studies.

The aim of the lecture is to present the state-of-the-art methods and several applictaions ofelectron density analysis.

  • The experimental and theoretical methods for charge density studies.
  • The multipole model for charge density analysis.
  • Understanding the chemical bonding
  • Predictions of the properties of materials
  • The discussion based of own results

  1. Multipole model for biological active compounds.

The aim of the lecture is to present the way from X-ray high resolution measurements to properties of the crystal structure

  • Experimental requirements for charge density studies.
  • Processing the data (integration)
  • Multipole refinement strategies.
  • Analysis the results from the multipole model
  • Properties of the crystal structure, (elctrostatic potential)
