Description:
COURSE CONTENT:
Separation of mixture of organic compounds; Isolation of caffeine from tea; Column chromatography; Kinetics; Oxidation; Reduction; Esterification; IR-Spectroscopy

LEARNING OUTCOMES:
After completion of this course, the successful student will be able to:
- state and explain the basic methods of separation and purification of organic compounds
- carry out filtration, extraction, distillation at atmospheric pressure, column and thin layer chromatography and recrystallization techniques
- use reflux apparatus for heating in a proper way
- calculate reaction yield and first and second order reaction constant
- write mechanisms of esterification, reduction and oxidation reactions
- record and analyze IR spectra of simple organic compounds.
