The CroClimExtremes project coordinator, Ivana Herceg Bulić, together with project team members Dalibor Paar, Karla Mlađen and Ksenija Cindrić Kalin, participated in the international scientific conference “Vertical – Horizontal: 45 Years of Biokovo Nature Park”, held in Makarska from 15 to 17 October 2026. The conference was organised by Biokovo Nature Park, a partner in the CroClimExtremes project.
I. Herceg Bulić was an invited speaker and presented the first results of the analyses of meteorological data collected on Biokovo as part of the CroClimExtremes project, under the title:
Herceg Bulić, I., Pasarić, Z., Cokarić, L., Paar, D., Bočić, N., Mlađen, K., Protrka, K., and Škrabić, H. Biokovo under the lens of scientific research: what has the CroClimExtremes project revealed?
In his presentation, Dalibor Paar highlighted the importance of systematic monitoring of climatic and environmental parameters in protected mountain areas:
Paar, D. Climate extremes in mountain protected areas: monitoring, interpretation, and management under climate change conditions.

SEMINAR IN ZAGREB (10/2026)

On Monday, 5 October 2026, we had the pleasure of attending a seminar given by Christian Ferrarin at the Department of Geophysics in Zagreb. Christian is a physical oceanographer and senior researcher at the Institute of Marine Sciences in Venice. His research focuses on coastal oceanography, particularly hydrodynamic and wave modelling, extreme events and coastal flooding, sediment transport, and the impacts of climate variability on coastal processes. As part of this work, he actively contributes to the development of the SHYFEM model, which is used for operational forecasting in the Adriatic Sea.
The seminar was attended by geophysics experts and, more importantly, by our students (from the third to fifth year), who had the opportunity to learn how hydrodynamic models are applied in oceanography and see examples of their practical use.
More details about the talk can be found here.
