As part of the implementation of the ReFresh Fish LIFE project, the first field activity was carried out with the aim of strengthening the capacities of the involved stakeholders and initiating the removal of invasive species.

The introductory educational and field activity brought together project partners and experts participating in the project implementation. The training was conducted by experts from the Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb (Roman Karlović, Goran Tvrdinić, Siniša Vajdić and David Dianežević), led by Prof. Davor Zanella. The activities took place over three days at several locations within the Natura 2000 ecological network, including Visovac and Brljan Lakes, the Čikola River with Gabelino Lake, the Vrba area, as well as Miloševo and Stipančevo Lakes.

On the first day, participants were introduced to general and standardised techniques used in ichthyological research, including the use of nets and electrofishing. Following the theoretical part, practical fieldwork was carried out, allowing participants to apply the acquired knowledge in real conditions.

On the second and third days, the collected samples were processed, with a focus on the identification of fish species inhabiting the project areas. In addition, data on abundance, weight, and length of individuals were collected. The obtained results will serve as a basis for reporting, further analyses, and long-term population monitoring.
