Interactions of Barents sea ice and atmosphere in autumn and winter

We invite students, graduates and all interested parties to attend the lecture, which will be held in the hall P2, Department of Geophysics, Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb, Horvatovac 95, Zagreb.

As an introduction, I will give a review of recent studies on the lead-lag interactions of Arctic and the midlatitudes with respect to sea ice, atmospheric processes, and surface climate. My own previous studies are about how November Barents sea ice anomaly is associated with lagged troposphere and surface climate later in the winter, as well as how climate conditions before November affect the November Barents sea ice. I will also show some ongoing investigation of the dominant coupled modes of sea ice-atmosphere using Maximum Covariance Analysis. Selected GCMs are also analysed similarly. It was found that the models generally overestimate the covariance for the first modes.
