The Multi-Hazard Early Warning Advisory System for South East Europe (SEE-MHEWS)

Pozivaju se svi zainteresirani da prisustvuju predavanju, koje će se održati u predavaoni P2 Geofizičkog odsjeka PMF-a, Horvatovac 95, Zagreb.

South East Europe (SEE) is facing serious challenges related to severe weather climate and hydrological phenomena that already exert their negative effects on the safety of people, and cause detrimental consequences in different economy sectors. As a government authority National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) strive to create, operate, maintain and further develop their early warning systems. These national efforts are greatly helped with the international collaboration either through World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) or other relevant organisations and bodies (e.g. European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction, International Center for Theoretical Physics, and others).
WMO recently Initiated a large collaborative activity in SEE with 18 countries on-board, which is a continuation of previous work under the WMO South East European Program. In this endeavour all existing numerical weather prediction (NWP) consortia participate together with selected hydrological experts striving to put in quasi-operational (pre-operational) work the multi-hazard early warning advisory system that will support countries' work on their national systems. At the same time optimisation/savings in national NWP operations will be done, and more space made available for further improvements of EWSs through targeted research, and education and training activities.
