We are pleased to invite all PhD students, their supervisors and all interested parties to participate in the 5th edition of the Faculty of Science PhD Student Symposium, to be held on April 24-25, 2021, at the Department of Chemistry of the Faculty of Science, Horvatovac ul. 102a, Zagreb.
Due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, the Symposium will be held in one of the following three ways: in-person, as a hybrid model (part of the participants in person, part online) or completely online, depending on the epidemiological situation at the time of the Symposium.

Opening of registrations

Registration for the Symposium will open on February 1, 2021. In addition to PhD students who will present their research, all other interested parties are welcome to participate in the Symposium as observers, i.e. passive participants. Deadline for application and abstract submission is February 28, 2021.

Who can register?

All PhD students of the Faculty of Science and related studies (regardless of the year of their studies) can participate in the Symposium presenting their PhD research results. We invite everyone else to register as passive participants, especially students at any stage of their studies.

In which ways can you participate?

You can participate by giving an oral presentation, a flash presentation, or a poster presentation, as well as by being a passive participant. A standard oral presentation lasts up to eight minutes, plus two minutes for discussion. A flash presentation lasts up to three minutes, plus two minutes for discussion, and aims to present the most important aspects of one's research. For a flash presentation, one slide (maximum) is allowed, and encouraged. PhD students who opt for a flash presentation also need to present their results in form of a poster. Students having a poster presentation need to prepare a poster of dimension 100 cm x 80 cm (100 cm is the height and 80 cm is the width, i.e. the poster is oriented vertically).

Since results from all research areas will be presented at the Symposium, students are encouraged to formulate their presentations in a way that is suitable for a wider (scientific) audience.

Participation in the Symposium can be evaluated with ECTS credits according to the decision of the competent council of doctoral studies.

Further information and registration can be found on the Symposium website: https://www.pmf.unizg.hr/en/study_programmes/doctoral_study/phd_student_symposium

We are looking forward to welcoming you, building new collaborations and to a constructive scientific exchange!

Internal conference for doctoral candidates geo_doc

First year PhD students present the results of their first year of research and provide an overview of the state of global knowledge on their topic as it relates to their research. Due to the nature of the content, the presentation is oral.

Second year PhD students present the results of their scientific research. The presentation can take the form of a poster or an oral presentation.

The first internal conference for PhD students was held in 2015 with 4 oral presentations. Over the years, the conference grew as shown in the graph below. In 2020, there were 10 oral and 5 poster presentations with about 40 participants. The conference was organised in two parallel sessions with two guest lecturers. The response from our PhD students has been very positive.

In addition, 2019/20 was the reaccreditation of the Doctoral study in Geography: space, region, environment, landscape, with geo_doc highlighted as an example of good practice.

Last year's conference was held at the Department of Geography on 9th of July 2021.
