Description:
Quantum and classical counts of states in the systems of quasi-independent particles. Macro- and microstates. Quantum statistics. Gibbs' method of ensembles. Most probable energy distribution. Method of molecular partition function. Unexcited and classical motions. Multicomponent systems; absolute activity, equilibrium constant. Classical statistical mechanics: basic principles and applicability range. Phase spaces; phase integral; configuration integral. Numerical simulations (molecular dynamics, Monte Carlo). Density matrix. Systems ofi interacting particles: realni fluids, isotropic crystals, ideal and regular mixtures, solutions. Transport phenomena; linear empirical laws. Fluxes and thermodynamic forces; production of entropy. Linear approximation: Onsager's reciprocal relations. Chemical reactions: affinity and entropy production. Experimental thermodynamics: thermometry, (micro)calorimetry.
