Description:
Definition and development of supramolecular chemistry. Examples of natural supramolecular systems. Characteristics of biochemical processes - organic chemistry in vivo. Classification of Host-Guest complexes, synthesis and properties of crown ethers and cryptands. Binding constants, extraction and transport of metal cations through natural and artificial membranes. Natural and synthetic ionophores. Concept of synthetic receptor and molecular recognition. Calixarenes, carcerands, spherands and polytopic receptors. Molecular recognition of amino acids, peptides and nucleotides. Chemosensors. Thermodynamics of supramolecular complexes. Nature of supramolecular interactions, non-covalent bonding interactions in supramolecular chemistry: electrostatic, hydrogen bond, van der Waals and aromatic. Solvophobic effects. Supramolecular synthesis and supramolecular chirality. Biological mimics and supramolecular catalysis. Development of functional supramolecular systems. Self-assembly and self-organization, supramolecular polymers, gels and fibers. Design new supramolecular functional materials nano-dimensional assemblies, molecular nanotechnology, molecular switches and artificial machines. Training: Design and Molecular modelling (Sybyl-X).
