Description:
EXPECTED COMPETENCES TO BE ACQUIRED:
To explain the advantages of hyphenated techniques in analyses of complex samples.
To explain the interfaces necessary to couple gas chromatography and mass spectrometry.
To explain the interfaces necessary to couple liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry.
To understand and explain on-line coupling of liquid chromatography and NMR spectroscopy
To compare mass spectrometer, infrared spectrometer and NMR as detectors in hyphenated systems.
To choose adequate method for on-line analysis of samples of different origin and complexity.

COURSE CONTENT:
Principles of hyphenated systems. Separation techniques. Liquid chromatography. Gas chromatography. Common detection systems. On-line coupling of separation systems and detectors such as LC-UV, LC-NMR, LC-MS, GC-MS. Advantages and disadvantages of hyphenated systems. Sensitivity and efficiency. The application of hyphenated systems in analysis of natural products, biomolecules, metabolites and impurities present in final products.
