Prof. Zlatko Liber, PhD is a Full Professor with tenure at the Department of Biology, Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb. He received his degree in Biology and Chemistry in 1990, his MSc in 1996, and his PhD in 2000 from the University of Zagreb, specializing in molecular systematics and plant phylogeny. He has been a faculty member at the University of Zagreb since 1993, progressing through all academic ranks to Full Professor with tenure.
His research focuses on molecular genetics, phylogeny, population genetics, and plant biodiversity, with particular emphasis on endemic and economically important plant species of Croatia. He has participated in numerous national and international research projects funded by the Croatian Science Foundation, Horizon 2020, the European Social Fund, and the Croatian Scientific Centre of Excellence for Biodiversity and Molecular Plant Breeding.
Professor Liber has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in internationally recognized scientific journals and has delivered invited lectures at international conferences. He has supervised a large number of doctoral dissertations and master's theses in botany, molecular biology, and plant genetics. He has completed research training at leading international institutions, including the University of Cambridge, ETH Zurich, and the University of Vienna, and is a member of several national and international scientific societies. He also established the Laboratory for Genetic Diversity, Phylogeny and Molecular Systematics of Plants at the Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb, which serves as one of Croatia's leading research laboratories in molecular botany.
