Description:
COURSE GOALS: Training of common methods of preparative inorganic chemistry by means of synthesis of selected inorganic and complex compounds. Students exercise achieved knowledge in chemical analysis (quantitative) and instrumental methods: IR-spectroscopy, magnetochemistry, thermogravimetric (TG/DTA/DSC) for identification and characterization of the prepared compounds.

LEARNING OUTCOMES AT THE LEVEL OF THE PROGRAMME:
1. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
1.2. demonstrate a thorough knowledge and understanding of the fundamental concepts in chemistry
1.4. demonstrate a thorough knowledge and understanding of the most important chemistry laws and theories
1.5. demonstrate knowledge and understanding of basic experimental methods, instruments and methods of experimental data processing in physics and chemistry
2. APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
2.2. describe important aspects of chemical change
2.4. recognize and follow the logic of arguments, evaluate the adequacy of arguments and construct well supported arguments
2.8. teach science contextually, i.e., provide examples from everyday life when teaching abstract concepts
3. MAKING JUDGMENTS
3.1. develop a critical scientific attitude towards research in general, and in particular by learning to critically evaluate arguments, assumptions, abstract concepts and data
3.5. demonstrate professional integrity and ethical behavior in work with pupils and colleagues
4. COMMUNICATION SKILLS
4.1. communicate effectively with pupils and colleagues
4.4. use the written and oral English language communication skills that are essential for pursuing a career in physics, chemistry and education
5. LEARNING SKILLS
5.1. search for and use professional literature as well as any other sources of relevant information
5.2. remain informed of new developments and methods in physics, chemistry and education
5.3. develop a personal sense of responsibility for their professional advancement and development

LEARNING OUTCOMES SPECIFIC FOR THE COURSE:
Student will know:
1. the basic methods of synthesis of inorganic compounds,
2. principles of chemical analysis and characterization of chemical compounds.
Student will be able:
1. to compare the structure of the matter and its reactivity,
2. to demonstrate the knowledge and understanding of the basic experimental methods, instruments and way of processing the experimental data,
3. set, perform and discuss the school experiments in chemistry,
4. to apply all safety precautions in handling with laboratory ware, equipment and chemicals,
5. perform the standard laboratory procedures,
6. to introduce the results of its own research on educational and scientific meetings,
7. to track by itself development of the new knowledge in physics and chemistry and in education of physics and chemistry.
Student will be able to take responsibility for its own competence advantage and professional growth.
