Quantum-mechanical basis: postulates of quantum mechanics, quantization of energy levels in theoretical models. Interaction of radiation with molecules: absorption, stimulated and spontaneous emissions and scattering of electromagnetic radiation. Rotational spectroscopy: a rigid rotor model for studying the rotations of diatomic and polyatomic molecules. Vibrational spectroscopy: harmonic and anharmonic oscillator models for studying the vibrations of diatomic and polyatomic molecules. Electron spectroscopy: electronic states of molecules. Magnetic resonances: nuclear magnetic resonance, electronic paramagnetic resonance.
