In agreement with the students enrolled in the course, the lecturer will provide as many teaching elements in English as possible, or in both English and Croatian for mixed groups (i.e., bilingual teaching materials and bilingual exams). Level 2 also includes additional individual consultations with foreign students (as in Level 1) for the teaching elements which will be held in Croatian.

Description:
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
To enable students to apply the calculation of the equalization of measured values ??in geophysics.

COURSE CONTENT:
Types of errors. Fundamentals of the theory of random errors. Gauss's law of the probability of errors. Accuracy assessments of direct observations (measurements). Equalization of indirect observations. Error equations and normal equations, errors of equalized quantities.

COURSE SYLLABUS:
1. Introductory lecture
2. Fundamentals of the theory of errors. Gross, systematic, random errors
3. Probability of errors. Basic laws of the calculation of errors
4. Probability distribution. Reliability of measurements. Characteristic properties of random errors
5. Probability that the error is within certain limits. Arithmetic mean as the most probable value of an unknown quantity.
6. Gauss's law of errors
7. Measurements of different accuracy and the concept of weights. Accuracy assessment
8. Gauss's law of the increase of errors
9. Direct measurements. Reference mean error. Weight of a function
10. Indirect measurements. Equalization of measurements of equal accuracy
11. Determining errors in indirect measurements
12. Mean error of equalized quantities
13. Calculation control. Exercise
14. Matrix representation. Mean error of a function of unknowns

LEARNING METHOD:
Listening to lectures, studying notes and literature; analyzing examples, deriving equations and solving problems.

TEACHING METHODS:
Lecture, discussion; deriving equations, solving numerical problems.

MONITORING AND ASSESSMENT METHOD:
Homework; written and oral exam.

SIGNATURE CONDITIONS:
Regular class attendance (at least 70%), homework, solved and submitted individual assignment.
