Seismology at the Department of Geophysics

Seismologists at the Department of Geophysics investigate the causes and properties of earthquakes in Croatia and the physical properties of the Earth’s lithosphere and the uppermost mantle throughout Croatia. The research involves also topics of engineering seismology and seismic hazard assessment.

Seismologists at the Department work both at the Andrija Mohorovičić Geophysical Institute and the Seismological Survey.  The first ones are mostly involved in scientific research and teaching, while the latter ones are focused on professional work in seismicity monitoring in Croatia as well as the development and maintenance of the permanent seismic network. However, both cooperate tightly and work together on many projects, research, and professional.
