Climatological data

Monthly and yearly averages are available through the website of PSMSL database. Sea levelsare expressed in mm relative to the zero determined by PSMSL.

 

Hourly sea levels

Hourly sea levels are available from December 1929 until three years ago. Measurements are relative to the mean sea level (z0 = 73.8045 cm) calculated for the era 1962 - 1980 (HVRS71 national system). If sea levels are to be expressed relative to the chart datum then 32.3 cm should be added to the reported values. Time is in UTC+1. A detailed description of the dataset is available in Međugorac et al. (2022). The data are available for scientific research through the SEANOE database under license CC-BY-NC (Međugorac et al., 2021; https://doi.org/10.17882/85171).

Any papers that make use of hourly sea levels should acknowledge its source (Međugorac et al., 2021; https://doi.org/10.17882/85171) and cite the paper by Međugorac et al. (2022).

 

Minute sea levels

1-min averages of sea level measured by radar (OTT RLS) and float (OTT Thalymedes) sensors expressed relative to the tide-gauge zero are visualized here.

 

Original tide-gauge charts

Original charts of Bakar data are held in the Archive of the Department of Geophysics. They have been systematically cataloged, archived by year and stored in metal archive cabinets. The original water-level records are often examined when historical storm surges and processes on a smaller time scale (such as tsunamis and meteorological tsunamis) are being analyzed and are regularly used in geophysical research. Charts are also used to check suspicious digitized values and are exchanged with scientists from other institutions (and other countries) in case they need to check records on their charts.

List of scientific papers that made use of Bakar sea levels is in the Repository. We would be grateful to be notified of any papers, scientific or commercial, which resulted from the Bakar sea levels. This will give us information about the impact of our data, but also it will be helpful in securing fundings for future work of the station.
