Description:
Introduction to mass spectrometry (mass spectra elements, ionization processes, multiple charged ions, isotopes, elemental composition of ions). Instrumentation (mass spectrometer -basic parts, ionization methods, mass analyzers, dynamic range, scan speed, measurement sensitivity, mass measurement accuracy resolution). Separation methods and hyphenated techniques in mass spectrometry. Qualitative and quantitative measurements (tandem mass spectrometry, fragmentation methods, structure analysis, isotope labeling). Mass spectrometry methods for protein higher order structure analysis: direct methods of protein 3D structure characterization, cross linking methods, molecule topography characterization and methods of non- selective and selective labeling, solvent accessible area mapping. Mass spectrometry of protein dynamics and protein-protein interactions. Mass spectrometry of other biopolymers, nucleic acids and oligosaccharides.
