COURSE OBJECTIVES:
The objective of the course Introduction to general and developmental psychology is to introduce students to basic scientific knowledge about psychological processes and individual differences of students important for successful learning, and to develop understanding of different aspects of child and adolescent development.

COURSE CONTENT:

1) Introduction to psychology - subject of study, subject areas, research methods, definition of psychological processes (cognition, emotion, motivation);
2) Individual differences in personality;
3) Individual differences in cognitive abilities;
4) Cognitive approach to learning ? model of memory, cognitive processes;
5) Cognitive approach to learning - metacognition, structure of long-term memory;
6) Behaviorist theories of learning;
7) Social-cognitive theory of learning;
8) Basic determinants of human development;
9) Cognitive development ?theory of Jean Piaget;
10) Cognitive development - socio-cultural theory of Lev Vygotsky, developmental theories of information processing;
11) Emotional development;
12) Development of self-concept;
13) Social and moral development;
14) Role of family, peers and school in development;
15) Children with neurodevelopmental disabilities.
