Description:
The proposed subject has the task of introducing students to the basic mechanisms of autoimmunity with a special focus on autoimmune diseases and the differences between autoimmunity and autoimmune diseases that affect an increasing number of people worldwide.
Course content: Basics of immune reactions, tolerance, mechanisms of initiation of the autoimmune response process; the division of autoimmune diseases; the role of self-antigens and disorders of the immune system (immunodeficiency, hypersensitivity, autoimmunity); triggers of autoimmune reactions: viral infections, bacterial infections, drugs, molecular mimicry, hormones (stimulated and spontaneous onset of autoimmunity); structure, type and significance of autoantibodies; antigen-antibody complexes, T and B lymphocytes; gene factors such as genes for intracellular signalling and receptors (BANK1, BLK, PTPN2, PTPN22, TNFAIP3, TRAF1), genes for transcription factors (REL, STAT4, IRF5, NKX2-3), genes for cytokines and cytokine receptors, genes for membrane receptors and costimulatory molecules, genes for enzymes associated with autoimmune diseases (ARTS1, PADI4), autoantigens (INS, TSHR); genes of the HLA system; environmental factors influencing the development of autoimmune diseases and natural selection.
