Description:
Learning outcomes:
1. Explain the need for intra- and interdisciplinary cooperation in the research of different ecological systems
2. To connect the ecology of organisms with environmental conditions on the spatial micro and macro scale
3. Develop effective methods of managing natural populations, considering legal and administrative constraints
4. Identify the main groups of insect vectors of different diseases
5. List the most common diseases caused by insects
6. Describe the basic life cycles of insect vector diseases
7. Summarize and describe the life cycles of insect pathogens in humans
8. Summarize and describe the life cycles of insect pathogens in animals
9. Discuss which medical conditions can cause insect-borne diseases
10. Name the main areas of distribution of insect vectors of the most common disease

Course content:
The subject interconnects the biological importance of disease-carrying insects and their impact on humans and animals.

1. Introduction, basic overview of parasitic insects and their morphological adaptations
2. Representatives of the insect order Blattodea and Phthiraptera and the diseases they transmit
3. Representatives of the insect order Hemiptera and the diseases they transmit
4. Representatives of the insect order Siphonaptera and the diseases they transmit
5. Representatives of the insect order Hymenoptera, Coleoptera and Lepidoptera and the diseases they transmit
6. Representatives of the insect order of Diptera and an overview of all families that transmit diseases
7. Representatives of the order Diptera, family Culicidae - Vectors and distribution
8. Representatives of the order Diptera, family Culicidae - Malaria
9. Representatives of the order Diptera, family Culicidae - Other diseases
10. Representatives of the order Diptera, other families and diseases they transmit
11. Representatives of the order Diptera - Myiasis
12. Other arthropods causing disease in humans and animals

2. The significance of the orders Phithiraptera and Blattodea and the diseases they transmit in the history of human communities.
3. Significance of Bedbugs and the diseases they transmit in present-day Central and South America.
4. The importance of fleas as carriers of the Plague and their impact on humans throughout history.
5. Bites and stings and its effects on humans and animals.
6. Diptera as the most numerous carriers of infectious diseases.
7. Mosquitoes and malaria, past, today and the future.
8. Invasive mosquitoes and the incidence of new diseases in the old world.
9. Yellow fever, Dengue fever, vaccination and control of mosquito vector populations.
10. Family Psychodidae and disease they transmit.
