Description:
Supramolecular structure of eukaryotic cells. Structure and function of the cytoskeleton. Viscoelastic properties of the cells. Biological molecular motors, cell motility. Biomembranes: why they appear and how to define their shapes. Phase transitions in biomembranes. Heterogeneity and asymmetry in the organization of basic building blocks. Liposomes. Transport through the membrane. Transport mechanisms in the cytoplasm. Molecular dynamics of biomembranes. Signaling pathways and information transfer in cells

LEARNING OUTCOMES:
1. To specify and explain basics in biophysics of cells;
2. To explain and compare macromolecules as building blocks;
3. To apply theories of hydrodynamics and statistical physics to transport processes in cells;
4. To apply methods of statistical physics and theory of elasticity to the mechanics of the cytoskeleton;
5. To specify and explain description of cell membrane geometry;
6. To explain differences in stochastic and deterministic data in biological system;
7. To specify and explain lipid supramolecular aggregates;
8. To apply theory of phase transitions to biomembranes;
