* Load is given in academic hour (1 academic hour = 45 minutes)
Description:
1) Characteristics of observational techniques through the electromagnetic spectrum (gamma to radio regime, aperture synthesis, radio interferometry)
2) Methods handling massive databases (imaging, data reduction, luminosity functions, population synthesis, statistical identification of galaxy overdensities)
3) Large scale structure (modern sky surveys, SDSS, COSMOS, 2dF, HDF, photometric redshifts)
4) Galaxy formation and evolution (high redshift galaxies, starbursts, galaxy interactions, quasars, AGN, expectations and models for galaxy formation and evolution)
5) Introduction to observational cosmology (isotropic and homogeneous universe, expanding universe, standard model and inflation)
6) Inhomogenities in the universe (primordial density fluctuations, formation and evolution of structures)
7) Cosmological quantities (galaxy clusters, high-redshift supernovae, CMB)
8) Early universe (Ly-break galaxies, new galaxy types, IR and X-ray background, reionization, comparison with models).
