The objective of this course is to introduce students to the physics of quantum liquids, providing a theoretical framework that includes Bose-Einstein condensation, superfluidity, Fermi liquid theory, and superconductivity. The course emphasizes the common concepts, such as order parameters, broken symmetry, and quasiparticles. Students will develop the physical and mathematical tools to describe both bosonic and fermionic quantum fluids, including Bogoliubov and Gross-Pitaevskii frameworks, Landau's Fermi liquid theory and the Ginzburg-Landau, and BCS theories of superconductivity. Students will develop the ability to critically evaluate theoretical models and their range of validity, preparing them for research in condensed matter physics and quantum many-body theory. |
