All teaching activities will be held in Croatian. However, foreign students in mixed groups will have the opportunity to attend additional office hours with the lecturer and teaching assistants in English to help master the course materials. Additionally, the lecturer will refer foreign students to the corresponding literature in English, as well as give them the possibility of taking the associated exams in English.

Description:
Learning outcomes:

1. to uderstand decomposition of the human body
2. to determine time of death usimg forensic parameters
3. to understand biological methods in forensic science
4. to determine kinship by DNA analysis
5. to analyze fingerprints and hair


Course Content:

1. Human body decomposition
2. Body fluids and waste products
3. Genomic and mitochondrial DNA analysis
4. Human tissues - skin, hair, bones, teeth
5. Mass disaster victim identification
5. Animals in forensics - emphasis on entomology
6. Protist, plants, fungi in forensics - emphasis on diatoms
7. Bacteria and viruses - emphasis on bioterrorism

Lab work:

1. determination of coprophilic insects and their use for PMI assesment
2. determination of diatom algae and their use in plase of drowning assesment
3. analysis of human and animal hair
4. DNA analysis and kinship assessment

Seminar:
Active discussion of students and teacher on defined topics
