Franka Sunjka was born in Šibenik on September 6 2002, where she completed her primary education (OŠ Brodarica, 2008–2016) and secondary education (Gimnazija Antuna Vrančića, field: natural sciences and mathematics, 2016–2020). She is among the recipients of the award of the Ministry of Science and Education for the best graduates in the State Graduation Exam in the 2019/2020 school year.
She enrolled in the University Undergraduate Study of Chemistry at the Faculty of Science (University of Zagreb) in 2020 and completed it in 2023 with a final thesis entitled Analysis of Wine Using NMR Spectroscopy (supervisor: Prof. Predrag Novak, PhD). In 2023, she enrolled in the University Graduate Study of Chemistry; module: research. She is the recipient of the Rector’s Award for individual scientific work entitled Classification of Croatian and Slovenian Sparkling Wines According to Geographical Origin Using DOSY NMR Spectroscopy and Deep Reinforcement Learning (academic year 2024/2025, in collaboration with J. Borovec, under the supervision of Prof. Predrag Novak, PhD, and Prof. Tomica Hrenar, PhD). She completed her graduate studies in 2025 by defending a thesis entitled Analysis of Croatian Sparkling Wines After the Addition of Potassium Polyaspartate Using NMR Spectroscopy (supervisor: Prof. Predrag Novak, PhD), and was awarded the Medal of the Department of Chemistry for Excellence in Studies. She enrolled in the Postgraduate Study of Chemistry (field: Physical Chemistry) in 2025.
She is a collaborator on the Croatian Science Foundation (HRZZ) project Thermodynamic, Spectroscopic and Structural Aspects of Calixarene Coordination Reactions (CalixCORE, IP-2024-05-3012; principal investigator: Prof. Vladislav Tomišić, PhD). Since 2026, she has been employed as a research and teaching assistant at the Department of Physical Chemistry.
She actively participates in international conferences, and has presented her results in the form of one invited lecture and several poster presentations.
She has been a member of the Croatian Chemical Society since 2025.
She participated in the implementation of activities related to the popularization of science within the Department of Chemistry at the Faculty of Science (Znanstvene čarolije, Women in STEM, Dan i noć PMF)
