Description:
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
The aim of the Basics of Pathophysiology course is to learn the basic pathological changes in the functioning of the organism
COURSE CONTENT:
The teaching will take place in the form of lectures, seminars, and practical exercises.
LECTURES
1. Damage to cells, tissues, and organs.
2. Atrophy, hypertrophy, hyperplasia, aplasia, and others.
3. Cell death, apoptosis, necrosis, accumulation of disease,
4. Inflammatory reactions. Regeneration of inflammation.
5. Disorders of concentration of water and electrolytes.
6. Disturbances in the supply of oxygen.
7. Disorders in local blood flow.
8. Pathophysiology of digestion.
9. Pathophysiology of excretion.
10. Disturbances in the function of the endocrine system
SEMINARS
Seminars are organized in a way to extend the topics of specific areas not covered by the lectures.
1. Pathophysiological disorders of acid-base balance and the role of compensatory mechanisms
2. Metabolic disorders, detoxification, excretion, and protective functions of the liver
3. Degenerative diseases of bones and joints.
4. Pathophysiology of pregnancy and placentation abnormalities caused by gestational hypertension
5. Alzheimer's disease pathophysiology.
6. Pathophysiological basis of pain
7. Pathophysiology of brain ischemia
8. Disorders of lung function and pathophysiology of asthma
9. Pathophysiology of sepsis
10. Pompe disease: pathophysiology and innovative therapeutic strategies
11. Cystic fibrosis
12. Clotting disorders and thromboembolic conditions
13. Allergies
14. Disorders of thermoregulation
15. Disorders of traffic vitamins, hypervitaminosis, vitamin deficiency, development, and consequences
16. Disorders, obesity, malnutrition, starvation, anorexia nervosa
