COURSE CONTENT

Introduction, classification of instrumental analytical methods, principles and applications.
MOLECULAR SPECTROSCOPY: UV-Vis spectrometry (measurement of transmittance and absorbance, Beer s law, instruments, quantitative analysis, photometric titrations); luminescence spectrometry (theory of fluorescence and phosphorescence, instruments, applications); IR and Raman spectroscopy (theory of infrared and Raman spectroscopy, instruments, applications); NMR SPECTROSCOPY (NMR spectrometers, application of 1H and 13C NMR, two-dimensional NMR);
MASS SPECTROMETRY (mass spectra, ion sources, mass analyzers, applications),
POTENTIOMETRY (reference and ion-selective electrodes, ion-selective electrodes, direct potentiometric measurements, application),
CHROMATOGRAPHY (principles, classification of chromatographic methods); gas chromatography (instruments, applications); liquid chromatography (instruments, applications);
HYPHENATED TECHNIQUES (GC-MS, LC-MS, GC-IR, LC-IR).

2. To calculate the amount of an analyte based on the spectrometric measurements.
3. To explain the principles of potentiometric measurements.
4. To explain the principles of mass spectrometry.
5. To explain chromatographic methods for analyzing complex samples.

7. To choose adequate techniques and methods for qualitative and quantitative analysis of different analytes.
