Description:
CONTENT:
The bases of ligand reactivity. The principles of reactivity and mechanism. Thermodynamic and kinetic constraints upon reactivity. Metal-ligand interaction. Conformational changes. Symmetry and reactivity. Reactions of coordinated carbonyl compounds with nucleophiles. Nucleophile reactions and hybridization. Stabilization of anions and reactions of coordinated ligands with electrophiles. Reactions of coordinated amine, imine, cyanide, water or hydroxide and thiolate. Cyclic ligands and the template effect. The synthesis of large macrocyclic molecules. The origin of macrocyclic effect. Three-dimensional template effect, supramolecular structures and molecular topology. Building helical complexes. Double and triple helical structures. Aromatic and heterocyclic ligands. Oxidation and reduction of coordinated ligands.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
The student will be able:
1. To classify and to explain reactions of coordinated compounds with nucleophiles and electrophiles.
2. To explain the template effect in the synthesis of cyclic ligands.
3. To classify and to explain reactions of coordinated amine, imine and cyanide.
4. To describe the terms: metal-organic material, coordination polymer and metal-organic framework.
5. To explain the topology of supramolecular interactions of metal-organic compounds.
6. To classify and to explain methods for mechanochemical synthesis of metal-organic materials in the solid state.
7. To give a short oral lecture on given subject.
