COURSE AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: This is an introductory course to astronomy and astrophysics. The principal aim of the course is to give students basic knowledge of astronomy and astrophysics with an introduction to the cosmology.
COURSE DESCRIPTION AND SYLLABUS
- Coordinate systems on celestial sphere
- Solar and sidereal time, equation of time, definition of time unit
- Earth in movement (precession, aberration and nutation)
- Properties of stars (flux, radius, luminosity)
- Stellar spectra and effective temperatures
- Binary stars and stellar masses
- Equations of stellar structure
- Thermonuclear reactions in stellar core, origin of elements
- Formation and evolution of stars
- Final stages of stellar evolution: white dwarfs, neutron stars and black holes
- Our Galaxy Milky Way (discovery of spiral structure)
- Stellar kinematics and quation of dark matter
- Galaxies (properties, classification, evolution)
- Local Group of Galaxies, Cluster of galaxies and large-scale structure of the Universe
- Origin of the Universe (universal expansion, background radiation, primordial nucleosynthesis, cosmological models)
