Description:
COURSE AIMS AND OBJECTIVES:
Enable students to:
- critically think about database systems and selection of databases depending on the IT system;
- work with relational databases in everyday production environment.

COURSE DESCRIPTION AND SYLLABUS:
1. Extending the knowledge of relational database management systems. Transactions. Indexes and active objects within a relational database. Complex data types. Temporal and geospatial databases.
2. Distributed databases. Goals, purpose, advantages, and disadvantages of data distribution. Distributed database structure, replication, fragmentation. Distributed transaction protocols.
3. Nonrelational (NoSQL) databases. Basic terms. Genesis of NoSQL databases. Aggregation data model. NoSQL database consistency and CAP theorem. Types of NoSQL databases. Distributed computing in NoSQL databases.
4. Combining relational and nonrelational systems. Hybrid model of information systems. NoSQL features in the relational DBMSs.
