Born on June 12, 1982 in Osijek (Croatia), where he completed primary and secondary school. Graduated in 2005 from the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb. Received his PhD in 2010 with the dissertation Influence of molecular dipole moment interactions on the crystal structures of triacylmethanes, at the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science in Zagreb under the supervision of Prof. Branko Kaitner. Since 2005 employed at the Division of General and Inorganic Chemistry, Department of Chemistry as an assistant, since 2010 as a senior assistant, since 2014 as an assistant professor, since 2020 as an associate professor, and since 2025 as a full professor. Participated in teaching courses in General (and Inorganic) Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, General (and Inorganic) Chemistry Laboratories Inorganic Reaction Mechanisms, Physical Inorganic Chemistry, and History and Philosophy of Chemistry.
Hes research interests include solid-state supramolecular chemistry and crystal engineering, with a focus on the study of the nature of non-bonded interactions responsible for the assembly of molecules in a crystal, cooperativity and interference between different types of intermolecular interactions in the crystal structure, and the influence of intermolecular interactions on molecular and supramolecular structure. In addition, he studies solid state dynamics, which includes phase transitions and chemical reactions in the solid state as well as processes that occur within the same phase such as proton transfer and dynamical disorder, and deals with the history of science with an emphasis on the history of crystallography. He is the author of over 90 scientific papers in journals cited in the Current Contents database, six professional papers and about two hundred presentations at domestic and international scientific meetings, of which five were invited and one plenary lecture. He is a member of the organizing committee of scientific meetings from the series Solid State Science and Research, Solutions in Chemistry. and Supramolecular Chemistry.
From 2015 to 2023, he served as Assistant to the Head of the Chemistry Department in charge Promotion and Public Relations, and since 2016 as Coordinator of the Chemistry Department's Scientific Colloquia. Since 2018, he has been a national representative in the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC Div. II). Since 2020, he has been a member of the editorial board of the scientific journal Croatica Chemica Acta. He is a member of the Croatian Chemical Society (from 2002 to 2005, he served as Head of its Student Section, and since 2023, Deputy Head of the Section for Chemical Nomenclature) and the Croatian Crystallographic Society. In addition to his scientific and teaching work, he is also intensively involved in the popularization of science. He has participated in the implementation of the Chemistry Department's Open Day at the Chemistry Department of the Faculty of Science since 2007, and from 2014 to 2017, he was the coordinator of the Organizing Committee. He also participates in the performance of the play Magic in Chemistry at the Chemistry Department of the Faculty of Science as a co-creator of the experiments and one of the main actors. In the period from 2010 to 2013, he prepared about twenty shows for the School Program of the Croatian national television (as part of the School Hour series), and was a guest on other radio and television shows. He is a co-organizer of the Chemistry Department's Christmas Lecture, and a co-organizer of the Mole Day celebration. He was a member of the editorial board of the monthly magazine for the popularization of science of the Croatian Natural Science Society, Priroda (editor-in-chief 2014-2015).
He is the recipient of the Annual Award of the Society of University Teachers and Other Scientists in Zagreb for young scientists and artists for 2012, the Recognition of the Faculty Council of the Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb for scientific and professional contribution for 2014, the Special recognition of the Faculty Council of the Faculty of Science in Zagreb for the popularization and promotion of science (2017), the Medal of the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science in Zagreb for a special contribution to the popularization of chemistry and sciencs (2017), and in 2021 was named as one of Outstanding reviewers by CrystEngComm.
