Description:
COURSE AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: The students are introduced to basic ideas and techniques of the nonlinear (chaotic) descrete dynamical systems.

COURSE DESCRIPTION AND SYLLABUS:
1. Examples of dynamical systems.
2. Graphical analyses and the phase portraits, periodic points, hyperbolicity.
3. The quadratic map, symbolic dynamics and topological conjugacy.
4. Sarkovskii's theorem and chaos.
5. The Schwarzian derivative, the unimodal maps and the kneading theory.
