Description:
COURSE AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: Enable students to:
- apply the already known numerical methods to the implementation of computer programs;
- deepen the understanding of the concepts of approximation, perturbation, and stability;
- program in some programming language (C, FORTRAN, with controlled use of available subprogram libraries) with the goal of familiarizing with numerical methods at the development level, and not just use;
- create efficient programs that take into account the complexity of the implemented code, as well as the optimal use of memory;
- develop skills for implementing (libraries of) mathematical software.

COURSE DESCRIPTION AND SYLLABUS:
1. Defining the environment, choosing a high-level programming language and mathematical software library (BLAS, LAPACK) to be used during the course.
2. Iterative methods for linear systems. Implementation of several simple methods, with the use of ready-made efficient subprograms. Practical application of learned methods on study examples from applications.
3. Implementation of one (simple) method for diagonalization. Eigenvalue problems and SVD in applications - selected examples are going to be solved by using the LAPACK library.
4. The least squares problem, with solving methods by using QR factorization and SVD, and by using subprograms from the LAPACK library. Regularization. Numerical solution of integral equations in practice.
