"Stipe Vidak" award...

In academic year 2020/2021 "Stipe Vidak" award is being given to teaching personnel of Department of Mathematics for exceptional contribution in teaching and working with university and high school students. Award is given in memory of our dear colleague dr. Stipe Vidak, assistant professor, who passed away too soon and who brought his positive spirit, openess in communication, passion for mathematics and remarkable professionalism into teaching.

Dr. Damir Bakić, professor, dr. Marko Erceg, assistant professor, dr. Matija Kazalicki, associate professor and dr. Siniša Sljepčević, professor were nominated in professor category. Dr. Marko Horvat, dr. Martina Stojić and teaching assistants group for course Introduction to Differential Geometry (Domagoj Lacmanović, Lucija Validžić and dr. Martina Stojić) were nominated in teaching assistant category. With great joy we announce that award winners for academic year 2020/2021 are

                                                                                   Damir Bakić and Sebastijan Horvat

Damir Bakić is full professor tenure at Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb. He is active in teaching for over 40 years and he has taught on all levels of university teaching, from excersises to lectures at specialist and doctoral studies. He implemented many new courses and he mentored dozens of math students. Also, he is on of the originators and founders of Postgraduate specialist study in Actuarial Mathematics, first and most significant study programme of that kind in Croatia. He has been favourite professor amongst students for years (he recieved "Brdo" award for best teachers multiple times and he is amongst best rated teachers in student questionaire every year). Professor Damir Bakić stands out as one of the most prominent teachers in the whole history of Department of Mathematics, who has implemented and maintained highest standards at university level of mathematics teaching throughout decades and for his effort we award him with "Stipe Vidak" award.

Sebastijan Horvat one of the youngest teaching assistants at Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb. From the beginning of his teaching career he has put big effort into his work and communications with students and, as students say, implemented new technologies in teaching  and showed exemplary skills in transfer of knowledge to students. He has improved didactic and teaching materials for every course he taught. Courses he improved are from the group of Computer Sciences, and with today's rapid development of technology his contributions in Department of Mathematics modernization are significant. Teaching assistant Sebastijan Horvat is awarded with "Stipe Vidak" award as a token of appreciation for his great enthusiasm in his field of interest, in preparing and teaching courses and in communication with students.

Award ceremony will remind us all once again of the integrity and academic values that our dear late Stipe Vidak showed in teaching. It will also point out importance of hard and dedicated work that other teachers at Department of Mathematics put into teaching and their efforts in creating partnership-like relation with their students, all in purpuse of efficient and comfortable transfer of knowledge and creating future experts our society needs.
