Description:
COURSE CONTENT:
Research database search and literature citing; Mannich reaction; Oxidative phenolic coupling; Quaternary ammonium salts; Chemical resolution of enantiomers and chiral HPLC analysis; Perkin condensation; Knoevenagel reaction (microwave synthesis) ; Enantioselective reduction (biocatalysis; polarimetry); Molecular modelling.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:
After completion of this course, the successful student will be able to:
- use laboratory dishes, to prepare the apparatus and to carry out classical and advanced organic laboratory procedures
- use high performance liquid chromatography ( HPLC ) for analysis of the mixture and determining the optical purity
- identify the reaction products on the basis of IR and NMR spectra
- specify and to explain the modern organic synthetic methods
- perform conformational analysis by applying computational chemistry
- plan a multistep synthesis of organic compounds
- use scientific and professional literature and other relevant sources of information.
