ArcGIS Pro internal workshop

Any learning activity in everyday or professional life aimed at improving the personal, civic, social or professional activity of a particular individual is called lifelong learning. Department of Geography initiated a series of lectures and workshops to improve the teaching and research activities of the staff. After the first lecture (and a long break between activities), in which prof. Nenad Buzjak gave a lecture on the use of drones in geomorphological research (as a part of geoANVIL lab), research associate Marin Mićunović, mag.geogr. organized a new workshop.

Considering the changes in the field of GIS tools, the topic was migration from ArcMap package to ArcGIS Pro. Within the project of Croatian Science Foundation ˝Relative sea level change and climate change along the eastern Adriatic coast˝ (project leader: prof. Sanja Faivre, Department of Geography Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb), Marin Mićunović held the workshop "Application of ArcGIS Pro software in coastal area research". The aim of the workshop was to show the less experienced users the possibilities of the new ArcGIS Pro software and to facilitate the transition for the more advanced users. Using examples from his own dissertation writing experience, he introduced participants to the interface and basic capabilities of the ArcGIS Pro software package when working with vector and raster data.

The workshop was conducted in a hybrid environment (live at the department and via the platform MS Teams), and 12 members of the department actively participated.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank to GDi for their support and cooperation.

Lifelong learning

Lifelong learning encompasses a learning activities to improve knowledge, skills and competences within the personal, civic, social or professional activities of an individual.

The concept of lifelong learning is most often associated with goals of an economic nature, such as achieving greater competitiveness and lasting employability. But in the conditions of rapid and continuous technological development, it is a necessity for a university teacher to be up to date with modern achievements in the field of science, technique and technology that are necessary to apply in scientific and teaching work. The Department of Geography of the Faculty of Science recognizes these trends and support them through its activities.

The Department of Geography organizes and offers lifelong learning activities to its employees through lectures, seminars and workshops, independently or in cooperation with professional associations (Croatian Geographical Society, Croatian Geomorphological Society). An important part of these programs is our presence in all forms of training of primary and secondary school teachers (seminars for geography teachers, field trips and lectures at professional seminars).
