C3PO meeting 2025

The yearly C3PO meeting was held at the Geophysics department, Faculty of Science, on December 3, 2025. We shared our experiences in using the HCLIM climate models, saw the results of the evaluation, and reported to each other about our progress. We discussed everything and at the end made a plan to follow for another year.

ICAM 2025

The International Conference on Alpine Meteorology (ICAM) was held this year in Poreč, Croatia. Danijel Belušić gave an Invited talk "Benefits of kilometer-scale climate models for wind in complex terrain: present and future climate" as the opening of the Climate session, and Patrik Jureša gave a presentation "Kilometer-scale climate projections of downslope windstorms in the Scandinavian mountains," in the same section. It is important to note that collaborators of the C3PO project were active participants in the conference organizing committee (Kristian Horvath - chair, Patrik Jureša, Endi Keresturi, Branimir Omazić, Maja Telišman Prtenjak), as well as the program committee (Danijel Belušić, Kristian Horvath).

HCLIM Working Week 2025

From 13 to 17 October 2025 Sara Ivasić and Patrik Jureša participated in the HCLIM working week, this year held at DMI in Copenhagen, Denmark. We had a very interesting and useful week during which we covered all the important topics related to HCLIM. We carefully followed the results of colleagues from other institutes and discussed our progress with them. This experience was more than useful for our current ongoing model output evaluation.

ESSL Testbed

The ESSL Testbed is an annually returning event with the aim to enhance severe weather forecasting across Europe. They provide a platform for international interaction for researchers and forecasters. Patrik Jureša participated in the ESSL Testbed in Wiener Neustadt from September 1 to 5. https://www.essl.org/cms/essl-testbed/

Severe Weather in a Changing Climate

Patrik Jureša participated in the CNR-ISAC summer school entitled "Severe Weather in a Changing Climate", taking place in Castro Marina from 30 June to 4 July 2025. The summer school was focused on severe weather, convection, and especially severe winds from convective systems. http://ss2025.le.isac.cnr.it

6th Summer School on Theory, Mechanisms, and Hierarchical Modelling of Climate Dynamics, ICTP

Patrik Jureša participated in the 6th Summer School on Theory, Mechanisms and Hierarchical Modelling of Climate Dynamics: Artificial Intelligence and Climate Modelling at ICTP, Miramare, Italy, from 5 to 16 May 2025. As part of the summer school, there was a conference, where he presented his work in the form of a poster titled "Detection of extreme precipitation events in global climate models using ML".

C3PO HCLIM workshop

After successfully installing HCLIM on DHMZ’s HPC Neverin and running the first simulations, we held an internal workshop on March 17, 2025. During the workshop, we discussed the challenges encountered and explained the process of utilizing the modeling system to colleagues who had not yet had the opportunity to run it. A dedicated hands-on session allowed each participant to go through all the steps and run the model themselves.

HCLIM online training 2024

The online training session on HCLIM code and its implementation on HPCs took place on Thursday, November 21. During the session, we explored the code and successfully resolved the challenges encountered along the way. Participants in the training included Sara Ivasić, Sarah Ivušić, Patrik Jureša, Endi Keresturi and Lidija Srnec. The knowledge and skills acquired from this session will be applied to improve the performance of our project.

HCLIM WORKING WEEK 2024

From 16 to 20 September 2024 Sarah Ivušić, Patrik Jureša and Lidija Srnec participated in the HCLIM (Harmonie-Climate) working week held at KNMI in De Bilt, the Netherlands. During the event, we had the opportunity to meet our colleagues from HCLIM consortium in person and learned a great deal from them throughout the week. This experience was highly beneficial, as we will be running and interpreting the HCLIM numerical climate model for Croatia as part of our C3PO project.

EMS 2024

The EMS 2024 conference took place in Barcelona from 2 to 6 September 2024. Patrik Jureša, a member of the C3PO team, delivered an oral presentation titled "Downslope windstorms in the Scandinavian mountains from a kilometer-scale regional climate model."

5th Summer School on Theory, Mechanisms and Hierarchical Modelling of Climate Dynamics, ICTP

Patrik Jureša participated in the 5th Summer School on Theory, Mechanisms, and Hierarchical Modelling of Climate Dynamics: Convection and Clouds at ICTP, Miramare, Italy, from 1 to 19 July 2024. As part of the summer school, there was the WCO4 conference, where he presented his work in the form of a poster titled "Supercell Storm Case in Croatia on 19 July 2023."

Visit to SMHI

Our PhD candidate Patrik Jureša visited SMHI in Norrköping, Sweden, for one month to collaborate with their team on ML/AI detection of extreme precipitation events and to delve into the code of the HCLIM models. This visit provided valuable insights, connections and hands-on experience that will greatly benefit our work on the project.

Kick-off meeting for C3PO

On 5 February 2024, at the Department of Geophysics, Faculty of Science (Zagreb) we held the kick-off meeting, bringing together a diverse team from several institutions working collaboratively on C3PO. The purpose of this meeting was to introduce the plans for the first year of the project and set the key goals to accomplish by the end of this phase. The meeting was highly productive, with many ideas and discussions that ensure we begin the project fully prepared.
