Josip Skejo osnovnu je školu završio u Šibeniku, srednju kao franjevački sjemeništarac u Sinju, a fakultetsko obrazovanje stekao je u Zagrebu (preddiplomski studij biologije 2014. pod mentorstvom prof. dr. sc. B. Primc; diplomski studij eksperimentalne biologije 2017. pod mentorstvom izv. prof. dr. sc. D. Franjevića i doc. dr. sc. A. Hochkircha, Trier). Terenski je, laboratorijski i muzejski biolog s bogatim domaćim i međunarodnim iskustvom. Teren i taksonomiju izučio je pod mentorstvom prof. dr. sc. Nikole Tvrtkovića. Objavio je 4 knjige, 3 poglavlja te preko 45 znanstvenih radova koji su citirani preko 540 puta, te opisao preko 60 svojti novih za znanost. Član je IUCN-ove komisije za zaštitu skakavaca i zrikavaca, gdje je koautorirao preko 150 stručnih radova. Član je i državnog povjerenstva za natjecanje iz biologije. Radi na Biološkom odsjeku u Zagrebu kao asistent. Doktorsku disertaciju izradio je u Düsseldorfu pod mentorstvom prof. dr. sc. Williama F. Martina i u Zagrebu pod mentorstvom izv. prof. dr. sc. Damjana Franjevića.
