Three year PhD stipend available in the group Chromatin and DNA replication (group leader: Marta Radman-Livaja) at the Institute of Molecular Genetics in Montpellier, France, for students interested in chromatin biology and genomics, to work on the epigenetic inheritance mechanisms of histone modifications in yeast. The successful candidate will be enrolled in the doctoral school of the University of Montpellier (http://ecole-doctorale-cbs2.igh.cnrs.fr/.)

Project summary:

This project is funded by the European Research Council Consolidator grant.

The goal is to create comprehensive maps of chromatin assembly dynamics on newly replicated DNA, in order to understand how chromatin states are restored and whether they can be inherited after perturbations caused by DNA replication, and explore the links between chromatin maturation and (re)activation of transcriptional activity.

We have developed a method for isolating chromatin assembled on newly replicated DNA, i.e. Nascent Chromatin Isolation or NCIs, which the student will use in combination with ChIP-seq i.e. NChIP-seq (Nascent Chromatin Immuno-Precipitation and high throughput DNA sequencing) to determine the kinetics of histone modification re-establishment after DNA replication.

Requirements:

Master (or equivalent degree)  in Molecular Biology or related field.
