1876. godine Vjekoslav Host je bio prvi nastavnik prirodoslovnih i matematičkih predmeta u hrvatskim srednjim školama obrazovan na Matematičko-prirodoslovnom odjelu Mudroslovnoga fakulteta Kr. Sveučilišta Franje Josipa I. u Zagrebu.
