(Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute, SMHI, Sweden):
Ambitions and challenges in NWP development from a HIRLAM-
surface perspective
Pozivaju se studenti, apsolventi i svi zainteresirani da prisustvuju predavanju, koje će se održati u predavaoni P2 Geofizičkog odsjeka PMF-a, Horvatovac 95, Zagreb.
In Europe there are now 26 countries in ALADIN/Météo-France/LACE/HIRLAM involved in the collaboration around the ALADIN-HIRLAM Numerical weather prediction (NWP) system. HIRLAM itself includes 10 countries. The plan is that we should all form a new joint consortium by 2020. Until then we go forward with a mix of individual and common plans. Here I will give a glance of what we are up
to in HIRLAM with focus on surface. Personally the last few years I have collaborated with Météo-France SURFEX colleagues to improve the ability of SURFEX to handle the soil/litter/snow/vegetation interface, called Multi-Energy Budget (MEB) in the SURFEX context. I will show some results from sensitivity studies how SURFEX with and without MEB performs under various conditions (snow-free French forest sites and snowy northern Finland).
