Hail observations and hailstorm characteristics in Europe
Pozivaju se studenti i svi ostali zainteresirani da prisustvuju predavanju, koje će se održati u predavaoni P2 Geofizičkog odsjeka PMF-a, Horvatovac 95, Zagreb.

General awareness and overall interest for hailstorms and hail properties in Europe increased significantly in the last few decades and resulted in numerous papers including climatology of hail on local or national scale. Recently, a review article about progress in hail research in Europe has been published. Based on this study, it will be presented all relevant information regarding hail measurements and hail analyses standards. In addition, the overview of existed results for Croatia will be shown which is comprised of hail frequencies, size and spatial distributions and trends including efforts made by Croatian researchers. New methods and approaches based on radar and satellite estimates, lightning proxies and some modeling attempts developed in recent years will be elaborated as well. Special attention will be given to satellite estimates of hail frequencies by means of overshooting tops observations.
