OUTLINE OF COURSE/MODULE CONTENT
Concept of Science and Research. Fields of Science. Scientific and scientific teaching institutions. Scientific and research-and-teaching ranks. Type of scientific papers. Doctoral dissertations. The scientific article, type, category. Content structure – parts characteristics. Scientific language and style. Citing styles, software. Presentation of scientific results – oral reports, posters. Scientific ethics, copyright, plagiarism. Scientific periodicals. Citing databases. Searching on-line databases. Workshops are foreseen for themes related to authorship, plagiarism, and cited databases, and/or visits by external experts (up to two teaching periods). It shall be possible to recognise a suitable workshop for a subject or part thereof (to be approved and recognised by the mentor/Study Advisor and the Doctoral Study Council).

DESCRIPTION OF INSTRUCTION METHODS
Lectures and consultations. Collaboration with visiting experts (2 lecture periods and workshops) from the Croatian Copyright Agency (authorship, copyright protection, plagiarism) and the Ruđer Bošković Institute (cited databases and online databases). Parts of a subject, or an entire subject can be substituted by other workshops that cover the content in question as organised, for example, by the University of Zagreb, or the like, on the basis of confirmation by such institution.
DESCRIPTION OF COURSE/MODULE REQUIREMENTS
Regular attendance at lectures and/or workshops. Such regular attendance shall be confirmed by the signature in the doctoral student’s record book [Index] of the course teacher or by confirmation of the organiser/implementer of the workshops. Knowledge shall be tested in written examinations. Positive grades shall be written into the doctoral candidate’s record book (Index) by the course teacher.
DESCRIPTION OF MONITORING OF TEACHING QUALITY
The mechanisms of institutional monitoring of teaching quality (the Regulations on Doctoral Study of the University of Zagreb, Form DR.SC. -04, DR.SC. -09).
ECTS: The ECTS system shall not be applied.
The second mandatory course is Research Methodology linked to the corresponding MODULE.
