Studies of galaxy evolution using stacking techniques

Petak 21.2.2014. u 14 sati u F25.

Our understanding of galaxy formation and evolution is beginning to develop rapidly thanks to a suite of ambitious new (and planned) surveys.  I will show how the novel data analysis technique of 'stacking' can be used to push the sensitivity/redshift limit of such surveys. I will focus on spectral stacking of the 21cm emission line of neutral hydrogen gas.  I will also discuss far-infrared stacking of Herschel data to examine the star formation rates of strong radio galaxies.
