Doktorski studij fizike je poslijediplomski sveučilišni studij čiji je nositelj Prirodoslovno-matematički fakultet (PMF) Sveučilišta u Zagrebu.

Izvoditelji studija: Fizički i Geofizički odsjeci PMF-a

OBAVIJEST

JOSIP BATUR

održat će znanstveni kolokvij (doktorski seminar) iz Nuklearne fizike pod naslovom

Development of neutron sensors for finding crude oil, methane hydrates and rare earth elements

In various industrial applications and research disciplines, the analysis of the elemental composition of the sample of interest, i.e. identifying which chemical elements and in what quantity make up the required sample, is of utmost importance. Neutron activation analysis methods and devices based on those methods have significant advantages over conventional material testing methods. Neutrons, as charge-neutral particles, are not affected by chemical bonds of an electromagnetic nature, so neutrons interact only with the nuclei of the elements that make up the sample of interest. Furthermore, the activation of the sample of interest with fast neutrons does not change the chemical composition of the material. Recently developed devices and methods based on 14 MeV neutron activation, complemented with Monte Carlo simulations, show promising results in data acquiring and consequent analysis of the elemental composition of the sample of interest. This work focused on studying the possibilities of using new neutron sensors in the oil industry, as well as in the detection of methane hydrates and rare earth elements. In research, an experimental setup based on new methods of neutron activation analysis, as well as softwares intended for Monte Carlo simulations of experimental processes, was used.

Voditelj smjera:

Prof. dr. sc. Damir Bosnar, v. r.
